A model 1850 foot officers sword. Palmer and Bachelder of Boston retailed sword. Manufactured by Collins & Company, Hartford Connecticut. The officer’s sword is dated “1861” and “1862” on the ricassos with a 31″ slightly curved blade with etched patriotic and floral patterns and a “IRON PROOF”marked spline, gilt floral pattern hilt, wire wrapped grip, and leather scabbard with gilt brass fittings. Very good condition with a bright blade showing distinct etching, minimal staining. Mostly aged patina on the scabbard fittings. This type of sword was standard equipment for officers up to the rank of major during the Civil War.
