A model 1850 foot officers sword. Palmer and Bachelder of Boston retailed sword. Manufactured by Collins & Company, Hartford Connecticut. The officer’s sword is dated “1861” and “1862” on the ricassos with a 31″ slightly curved blade with etched patriotic and floral patterns and a “IRON PROOF”marked spline, gilt floral pattern hilt, wire wrapped grip, and leather scabbard with gilt brass fittings. Very good condition with a bright blade showing distinct etching, minimal staining. Mostly aged patina on the scabbard fittings.¬†This type of sword was standard equipment for officers up to the rank of major during the Civil War.
